Do you know how many grams of sugar are in a can of soda?! Many contain around 40 grams! Of course, that doesn’t really mean much to the average consumer who is unaware that every 4 grams equals nearly 1 teaspooon of sugar! Yep, that’s right! About TEN TEASPOONS of sugar in most cans of soda! Yikes!
One of our “foodie” friends was kind enough to cook for us this evening. After dinner, we made the mistake of inquiring about the progress of her homemade Kombucha-making. She explained that when she had made it 4 months ago, it turned moldy. She was too freaked out to deal with it at the time, so she just tossed it back in the cupboard (huh?!) LOL! So, of course, we HAD to see it with our own two eyes…
If you’ve never tried Kombucha (fermented tea), this is a GREAT time to give it a try because you’d be hard pressed to find a cheaper deal in Omaha! Synergy brand is usually sold for $3.39/bottle at Whole Foods, but right now they’re just 2 for $5!!! Sale ends June 14th! Of course, the cheapest way to enjoy Kombucha is to make your own like we do, but Chad decided to try a couple “fun flavors” anyway since they’re on sale 🙂
1. Smoothies for nutrition: These usually are heavy on the greens and veggies and low on sugary fruits or honey (and usually include some avocado or raw egg).
2. Fun smoothies: These are intended as “fun treats” and include varieties such as strawberry/pineapple/banana; and maybe some neutral tasting veggies or greens (like spinach) that you can’t really tell are in there.
THIS smoothie was definitely an experiment in the first category. But even for a “nutritious” smoothie, it lacked a certain appeal. Suffice it to say that arugala and broccoli sprouts don’t make for the tastiest drink. LOL! (Go, Chad!)
