The Dangers of GMO Foods: “Genetic Roulette”

Please view the documentary below about the health and environmental dangers posed by the Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMOs) that have been unleashed into our food supply. The film is available for FREE online until 9-22-12 (likely there will be a fee after that)!! It’s definitely worth the time to watch it….and FORWARD it!!!

Evidence is mounting that GMOs cause gastrointestinal damage (leaky gut) leading to FOOD ALLERGIES and a host of other health problems (e.g., excema, asthma, allergies, autoimmune diseases, food intolerances, birth defects, infertility). According to experts in this film, there are even implications for those suffering with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Some of the most common genetically-modified foods include: corn, soy, sugar beets, canola and cottonseed oil, aspartame (artificial sweetener), growth hormones in milk, papaya, and zucchini squash.

Are Food Additives Causing YOUR Health Problems? “My Journey from Fibromyalgia to Food”

Pecan-Date Snack Bars

Makes eight bars

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/3 cups of pitted and roughly chopped Medjool dates

2 cups plain pecans (not roasted nor salted)

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350  degrees.

Place dates in a medium bowl and cover them completely with  water. Allow to soak for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, process the pecans in a food processor until they  resemble the texture of breadcrumbs.

When the dates are done soaking,  drain the water. Add dates to the food processor and process with the nuts until  well-combined and dough comes together into a ball.

Line a 7″ x 11″  baking pan with parchment paper – this makes clean-up easier. (Two bread pans  would make a great substitute if you don’t have a 7″ x 11″ pan.)
Press  dough evenly into the pan, pressing firmly with your hands to compact the  mixture as much as possible. (It’s helpful to wet your hands with water to  prevent batter from sticking to your fingers.)

Bake for about 10 minutes,  until the top looks a bit dry. Transfer to a cooling rack and cool completely  (about one hour).

Transfer bars (with parchment paper) to a cutting  board, and cut into eight bars. Enjoy!

These bars are also delicious when  enjoyed frozen for increased sweetness and firmness.

Food Additives Affect Children’s Health & Behavior

Have you ever wondered whether our children’s diet is affecting their health…or maybe even the way they feel or behave? Do you assume that certain children can “handle” food additives just fine just because they aren’t overweight or diagnosed with a behavior disorder or medical condition?

I encourage you to view the 5-minute video overview below that details the improvements experienced by children at one elementary school when their parents and school administrators worked together for 2 full weeks to eliminate food additives (colorings, flavorings, flavor enhancers, preservatives, etc.) from their diets.

Would it surprise you to know that some of the benefits reported by the children and their parents and school staff included: increased attention skills, decreased impulsiveness & behavior problems, less difficultly falling asleep at night, decreased bed wetting, fewer headaches & skin rashes, and improved mood and anger control (leading to improved relationships with peers and family members)? Even children who appeared initially to have “nothing wrong with them” were better behaved during the 2-week trial diet.
